Safe cosmetics for your health and beauty

A woman doesn’t have to wear a lot of makeup when she takes good care of her skin. That’s always been my philosophy. Even when it wasn’t in style, I wore the natural look and spent more time on skincare. I love the ritual of cleansing, exfoliating and massaging my face with oils and creams that are beneficial and that smell good.

My research led me to want to steer clear of commercial personal care products. I read disturbing information about lead in lipstick, coal tar in mascara and preservatives called parabens that mimic estrogen in some face creams. According to the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, the average American consumer uses ten cosmetic products per day and is exposed to roughly 126 chemicals. Up to 70% of what we put on our skin is absorbed into the bloodstream and can build up in our tissues.

My intention is to share information so women can make informed choices in an area of our lives where we have some control. I’m excited to offer skincare and makeup that is effective yet safe. If a goddess wore makeup, I’m sure she’d prefer coconut oil, rose water and green tea in her beauty products rather than synthetic ingredients with names too hard to even pronounce.

Sheila Hansen – Bio

I am a makeup artist with 25 years of experience. I’ve worked and apprenticed with some of the top cosmetic companies and artists such as Chanel, YSL, Laura Mercier, and Bobbi Brown. I was fortunate enough to be personally trained by celebrity makeup artist Bobbi Brown and received additional training at the Conservatory of Esthetics.

While working as a free-lance makeup artist doing fashion photography, CD covers, hair salon posters and department store events, I was able to create my own wedding makeup business which flourished for 20 years.

My lifelong interest in natural health and nutrition led me to become a certified herbal therapist in 1995. At a workshop I participated in a couple of years ago, the instructor touched on becoming aware of chemicals in personal care products. My interest was peeked and a seed was planted!

In June, 2009 I started my business IF A GODDESS WORE MAKEUP.
